Description

In the wake of Google’s shift from Universal Analytics to GA4, a challenge emerged due to the potential loss of historical data preceding July 2023. A tailored solution was imperative to preserve this critical data and enhance its interpretability and accessibility.

The first phase involved the utilization of a Python API to meticulously extract a comprehensive set of data from Google Analytics Universal. This ensured that no valuable insights were lost during the transition. The extracted data was then securely housed in Google Sheets, offering a cloud-based, easily accessible, and manageable storage solution.

The transformation of raw data into insightful, interactive reports was achieved using Google Data Studio. The reports were segmented to provide a detailed analysis, including an Overview Page for a snapshot of key metrics and trends. The Behaviour section offered insights into user interactions and website engagement. The Audience segment provided a detailed analysis of the demographic and psychographic composition of the user base. Acquisition focused on traffic sources and user channels, while the Conversion & E-Commerce section illuminated insights into sales trends and user purchase behaviors.

This initiative not only ensured the preservation of invaluable historical data but also enhanced its utility through detailed, interactive, and segmented reports. Stakeholders now have enriched insights at their fingertips, ensuring that informed decision-making continues seamlessly, even with the transition to GA4.

The strategic integration of Python for data extraction, Google Sheets for storage, and Google Data Studio for reporting delivered a comprehensive solution. The client now enjoys uninterrupted access to enriched historical data, ensuring continuity in insights and informed decision-making, effectively bridging the informational gap imposed by the transition to GA4.
